  1. Cut each fillet in half lengthwise and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Sift flour into a small bowl, making a well in the center. Gradually add the combined egg and beer. Using a wooden spoon, beat until all liquid is incorporated and the batter is lump free.
  3. Heat oil in pan. Dip the fish into batter one at a time, drain off excess and coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Cook fish in oil over a medium heat for 2 minutes each side or until golden and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towel, repeating with remaining fish. Serve with garlic sauce
  5. To make the Garlic Sauce : Cut potatoes into ½" cubes. Cook for 8 minutes, drain and mash until almost smooth. Add garlic and vinegar - mix well and season to taste.
  6. Add oil a few drops at a time, beating constantly until all the oil has been added and the mixture is thick and smooth. (may take 5 minutes)
